Current Projects
Atlas Productions are currently working on several projects including:
UK tour through 2008 of Love and The Gentle Heart: two new one act plays written by Alison Atkinson. Click here for Tour dates
i) Love and the Gentle Heart
The Story of Dante and Beatrice
Inspired by Dante Alighieri's poetical work: “La Vita Nuova”. Live music and dance feature strongly in this production, as do recitals of Dante's poetry in the original Italian. . All these elements work together to tell the story of Dante and Beatrice.

Alison Atkinson writes:
“Dante's first book "La Vita Nuova" is a deeply personal account of his youthful love for Beatrice. For dramatic purposes, I have added two further characters to this story: Dante's wife, Gemma and his cousin by marriage: Corso Donati.
"Dante wrote freely about everyone he knew: relatives, lovers, friends and enemies. It is notable that he never wrote a single word about his wife, Gemma.
"I feel it was inevitable that in the writing of this play, I should look forward to “The Divine Comedy” with all its references to Beatrice. According to Dante, his inspiration for “The Divine Comedy” was Beatrice.”
A flavour of this play was captured in an earlier, work-in-progress, private performance at Stowe School, Buckinghamshire.

ii) Love and the Gentle Heart
The Story of Abelard and Heloise
About another pair of medieval lovers: Abelard and Heloise. The early stage of their love affair is remarkably similar to lovers, Francesca and Paolo, who appear in “The Divine Comedy”.
Alison Atkinson writes:
“Both Heloise and Abelard were fine wordsmiths and I wanted to reflect that in the way they speak to each other.
"The missing voice in the story of Heloise and Abelard is that of their son, Astralabe. Astralabe has a significant role in this play as their physical and spiritual creation.
"Last of all (a placement of which he would approve), there is the saintly Peter The Venerable to steer them through the labyrinthine politics of Christendom.”
Live music, song and dance are integral to this production, providing atmosphere and pushing the narrative forward.

St Pancras Old Church
St. Pancras Old Church is an ideal venue for Love and the Gentle Heart and we are delighted to have opportunity to perform there.
The poet Shelley first saw and fell in love with Mary Godwin in the churchyard of St. Pancras old Church.
Inside the Church, an exposed section of the original Norman wall forms a natural backdrop to the story of Abelard and Heloise; a scattering of Roman tiles a reminder of Dante’s home.
The antiquity of St. Pancras Old Church would have been appreciated by Dante and Abelard, both of who were fascinated by the lives of the early Christians. The Old Church is believed to have been a site of Christian worship since 314 AD. An altar stone, dating from the 6th century, may have served as altar for St. Augustine.
