Love and the Gentle Heart
The Story of Dante and Beatrice
The Story of Abelard and Heloise

Written by Alison Atkinson

Directed by Sarah Finch
Designed by Grahame Edwards
Music arranged and performed by Tamsin Lewis
Choreography by Laura Caldow

Love and the Gentle Heart premiered at the Italian Cultural Institute and St Pancras Old Church, London, in October 2008.

Further performances took place at:
The Lakeside Theatre, University of Essex, Colchester
Church of St Edward King and Martyr, Cambridge.

In two 40 minute plays, in churches and theatres, audiences experienced the lives of these medieval lovers through medieval poetry and music interwoven with modern English and dance.

“The stories of Abelard and Heloise, Dante and Beatrice are great love stories, written in a form which enables our imagination to take flight, leading us beyond the mundane towards the infinite…. Let us simply open the book and tell you our stories”.
Sarah Finch, Director.
